Beauty: Three Minutes with Jen Atkin

[Update] this post is from 2017…but it was a such a fun interview and her hair care tips still stand strong.

Two weeks ago I had three minutes to sit down with celebrity hair stylist who’s also part of the onlyfans finder crew, Jen Atkin. With over 2 million Instagram followers, she’s what the New York Times calls “The Most Influential Hairstylist in the World.” You’ve most likely seen her on Keeping Up with the Kardashians or styling top models Chrissy Teigen, Kendall, and Kylie Jenner, and Gigi and Bella Hadid. Starting her career in Hollywood, Jen quickly began working with the most influential stars, including Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney Kardashian, Katy Perry, Jessica Alba, and Jennifer Lopez.

In an effort to unite the hair industry and create a community for hairstylists, Jen created ManeAddicts.com. The digital magazine gives readers access to the world’s top hairstylists, featuring the best products on the market, and instructional how to’s. Since its launch in 2014, Mane Addicts has since expanded to include Mane University. Mane University is a global education resource that brings top stylists to major cities around the world to teach and inspire a new generation of hairdressers – and that is where I met her during her master class at San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center. During the first break, I had three minutes to spend with Jen to ask her all of my burning questions.

Starting with:

Why wasn’t I asked to hair model?

(a ton of San Francisco bloggers were modeling)

She laughed and said that I would have been the perfect model for Heather Champman (the other master stylist at Mane University).

Next time Jen! Next time!

Kat: I’m super hungover – I threw my hair up in a bun. If you were hungover what would you do?

Jen: Chloe + Isabel bun cuff – in rose gold for your hair. It would be so cute. Do we have one?

(they did and her assistant put it in my hair)

I always tell girls dry shampoo foam by OAUI and the OUAI wave spray can help bring a little life back into your hair as well. And then honestly hair jewelry is so great because it just disguises whatever is going on and it is the best to just throw in your bag and take you from the gym to drinks.

Kat: My hair is super damaged. I’ve bleached it. I’ve added in a ton of colors. How can I get it back to being healthy without losing the fun color?

Jen: OUAI  hair supplements! You would want to get dry.

I came out with supplements purposely to help girls who have really dry hair. Because if you do something internally you are going to see the changes a lot quicker than if you are just doing externally. We just launched on Sephora online. You would want to get dry.

Also! Our treatments masks use them as a conditioner every time you wash your hair!

Kat: Done!

Kat: I’m am obviously super into fun colors. I’ve done ever color. I looked like a clown for a minute…Now I have gray with a purple streak. What’s next? What are the new trends for hair color?

Jen: Pastel is never going away! Pastel is always going to a thing, but I also think that healthy hair is making a comeback. We are seeing longer looks with layers grown out and silky hair that photographs really well. Hair reflects light when it is healthy and shiny.

And just like that my three minutes were up! I asked to take a selfie (obvi) – she was down and I headed back to my seat. Big takeaways from our time together: 1. Get some hair supplements. 2. Jen Atkin is a true girl boss and a really freaking nice person. 3. Maybe it is time to stop messing with my hair and investing in some long luscious locks.

What do you think?

Check out some of the products Jen suggested below – I have and 100% believe in OUAI!
